The NBA Summer League enters its fourth summer in Las Vegas, July 6-15. Over the last three summers, many of the NBA’s top young players have participated in the league. The league started in 2004 with six teams and that number jumped to 16 in both 2005 and 2006. It has become the premier summer league and the talent level proves it.

Below is the second and third-year players who may participate in Las Vegas (rosters will not officially be announced until just prior to league tip-off). Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns and Monta Ellis of the Golden State Warriors, two 2005 summer league standouts in Las Vegas, have quickly become two of the games quickest and most lethal scorers at the guard position. When the NBA's T-Mobile Rookie of the Year is announced in the coming weeks, the likely winner will be Portland's Brandon Roy. And he will win in a landslide. Through a mid-season coaching change, a 20-win season and coming up very short of the expectations set by last year's playoff berth, the Memphis Grizzlies had a bright spot throughout a disappointing season. When Chris Paul began his career in the NBA two seasons ago, his rapidly growing cheering section included such NBA Stars - and fellow Wake Forest alumni - as Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs and Josh Howard of the Dallas Mavericks. And while Paul appreciated their support as he prepared for his rookie season, neither played his point guard position, the toughest in the NBA. The season began with promise for Portland Trail Blazers rookie Brandon Roy. In his first three regular season games as an NBA player, the 6-6, 215-pound guard averaged 18.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 turnover in 38.3 minutes. But in the Blazers fourth game of the season, Roy went down with a heel injury. The promising start to his NBA career - a start that included a Draft Day trade and a spot on the Vegas Summer League All-Stars list - was put on hold. more »
