Wright Could Be Next Tar Heel Superstar

Brandan Wright

F/6-10/210

After becoming the third North Carolina Tar Heel to earn ACC Freshman of the Year honors, Wright decided to enter the NBA Draft in late April. He is expected to taken with one of the first 10 picks and could go as high as the third slot.

As the Tar Heels made the Elite Eight (where they bowed to the Georgetown Hoyas), the 19-year-old averaged 14.7 points (second behind F Tyler Hansbrough), 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. Wright shot an ACC-best 64.6 percent from the field – a league record for a freshman.

Wright, whose athleticism allows him to run the floor and get to the rim, said the April 23 decision to enter the draft did not come easily.

"I was definitely torn in my decision," Wright said. "There are so many positives and negatives in me entering the draft. But I feel like the positives outweigh the negatives."

The Nashville native understands he will need to add bulk to his 210-pound frame in order to have success as a power forward in the NBA.

"I'm going to work like crazy this summer to get ready for the rigors of a long 82-game season. I feel like I'll be ready next year. It should be fun," he said.
