Wright, a native of Chicago Heights, Ill., debated whether or not to enter the NBA Draft for a few weeks before declaring eligibility on April 9. Following the NCAA Tournament, Wright told reporters that he planned to remain at Kansas for his junior season, but finally opted to test the NBA waters.
"Although it was a tough decision to make, I am declaring myself eligible for the 2007 NBA Draft," Wright said. "I spoke extensively with my family and Coach (Bill) Self and I have decided that this was the best decision for me at the time. I plan to hire an agent at the end of May."
In two seasons with the Jayhawks, Wright averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds. Between his freshman and sophomore seasons, his number dramatically improved. Last season, in route to being named AP All-American Honorable Mention, Wright propelled his averages to 12.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 38 games (37 starts).
Considered a terrific athlete, Wright has a lot of energy on the court which translates to producing defense and excellent passes. Despite shooting 54.9 percent from the field last season and being relatively consistent from 12-15 feet, he will have to improve his longer range jumper as he begins his NBA career.
