Player to Watch: Yi Jianlian
19-Year-Old Chinese Prospect Lottery Bound

Yi Jianlian

Forward/7-0/246

Jianlian, the best international prospect for the 2007 NBA Draft, hopes to enter the league after gaining experience in numerous international tournaments and by playing the highest level of basketball in his native China.

An expected Top 10 pick (who could go as high as third), Jianlian averages 24.8 points and 11.4 rebounds on 57 percent shooting from the field this season for the Guangdong Tigers. The powerhouse Tigers have won three consecutive Chinese Basketball Association championships while boasting four Chinese national team players – including Jianlian – this season.

Jianlian’s 7-4 wingspan helps the 19-year-old play bigger than he actually is. According to his capsule on ESPN.com, Jianlain excels in ball handling and shooting which make him fundamentally sound, but he needs to add strength, work on his post-up game and improve his shot blocking.
