Conley Looks to be Best Point Guard in Draft
Mike Conley, Jr.
Guard/6-0/170
One of three Ohio State freshmen to declare draft eligibility, Conley is likely to be the first point guard chosen in 2007 within five to eight spots behind best friend and teammate C Greg Oden.
Conley, a First Team All-Big Ten selection, said that he looks forward to the challenge of entering the NBA after his first season as a Buckeye.
"This has been an extremely exciting and challenging process for me," said Conley at an Apr. 20 press conference to announce his intentions. "It is my life-long dream to play in the NBA. I would like to personally thank Coach (Thad) Matta and his staff for allowing me the opportunity to play for a great university, rich in history and tradition. I would like to also thank my teammates and the great Buckeye fans for all their support throughout the season."
The Indianapolis, Ind. native emerged the most sought after point guard in a deep draft class after averaging 11.3 points, 6.1 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 2.2 turnovers while shooting 52 percent from the field in 31.6 minutes (39 games).
A good athlete, Conley is the epitome of a team-first point guard, but he can be too unselfish at times. He will have to polish his jump shot and develop an NBA 3-pointer as he embarks on his pro basketball career.
