A 40 game schedule will highlight the activities in July. VSL action features the NBA’s top young talent along with selected free agents, and 2006 draft picks. NBA personnel and scouts from around the world will be on-hand to evaluate talent and consider players for future acquisition or trade possibilities. In addition, owners, GM’s, and several key people throughout the league have given the VSL a life of it’s own…becoming the NBA’s version of the hot stove league. Combine that with featured hospitality events, business meetings, sponsor activities, celebrity in-arena entertainment, and it has truly become the place to be in July for NBA Basketball.
Over the years, off-season competition and individual skill work has proven invaluable for teams and officials. Player development has become an integral part of the NBA, and the VSL is no exception. Players like Marquis Daniels & Devin Harris, Dwight Howard & Jameer Nelson, Sebastian Telfair & Travis Outlaw, Jarvis Hayes & Jarred Jeffries, Kendrick Perkins, Delonte West & Al Jefferson, Darko Milicic & Jason Maxiel, Chris Kaman & Shaun Livingston, Kevin Martin & Francisco Garcia, Nate Robinson & Channing Frye, or Chris Paul, David West & JR Smith have gone on to make immediate impacts following their VSL appearances. NBA officials also conduct training camps at the VSL. Veterans such as Danny Crawford, Ronnie Nunn and Jess Kersey provide helpful tips from their courtside positions.
